Vote activity

Learners vote for their favorite responses from an earlier Post-it or Select activity, and the group sees which ones stand out.

Written by Cody Iddings

In a Vote activity, learners vote for their favorite responses from the group, shown as post-its. Voting is anonymous, and the votes are revealed once everyone has finished. Vote works best straight after a Post-it or Select activity, so the group votes on its own ideas.

Tip: Voting results can't be carried into a separate discussion, so leave time in the Vote itself for the group to talk about the responses once they appear.

How to add a Vote activity

  1. In the section you want, click Add content > View all activities…, and then choose Vote.

  2. On the group canvas, add a headline and description to prompt the group. We also recommend adding an Audio introduction in the options panel. It plays at the start of the activity.

  3. Under Participant device, write the prompt learners see on their phone. To show them the same text as the group canvas instead, turn on Synced with group canvas.

  4. Add the options learners vote on. To use the responses from an earlier Post-it or Select activity instead, in the options panel under More settings, choose the activity from Vote on earlier responses.

  5. In the options panel, under More settings, choose how many votes each learner gets, from 1 vote / participant to 3 votes / participant. Learners can only vote for each option once.

  6. In the options panel, set Time allocated. The time covers both voting and the reveal, so allow at least 2 minutes, and more if you want the group to discuss the results.

  7. Optional: In the options panel, under Background Music, choose the music that plays while learners vote.

  8. Optional: To add an expert tip, which is a short audio clip that gives learners an extra prompt, click Choose audio tip.

When to use the Vote activity

  • To show which of the group's responses are the most popular.

  • To show how opinions are spread across the group.

  • To help the group reach a consensus.

Reporting

  • The report shows each learner's chosen responses as plain text, separated by commas if they had more than one vote.
