Survey activity

Collect individual answers from learners with scale and text questions that aren't shared with the rest of the group.

Written by Cody Iddings

Use a Survey to collect information from learners. Each learner answers on their own phone, and their answers aren't shared with the group. So we recommend using surveys sparingly, such as the same survey at the start and end of an experience to measure progress.

How to add a Survey activity

  1. In the section you want, click Add content > View all activities…, and then choose Survey.

  2. On the group canvas, add a headline and description to introduce the survey. Learners answer the questions on their phone.

  3. Under Participant device, add the questions learners answer. To add a question, click the plus button, and then choose a question type:

    • Scale: learners choose a number, from 1 to 10 unless you change it. You can change the labels at each end of the scale.

    • Text input: learners type their answer.

  4. In the options panel, under Time allocated, choose how long learners have. We recommend about 30 seconds per question.

  5. Optional: Under Background Music, choose the music that plays while learners answer.

  6. Optional: To add an expert tip, which is a short audio clip that gives learners an extra prompt, click Choose audio tip.

When to use surveys

  • To gather data or feedback on sensitive questions.

  • To gather sentiment about the experience from learners, such as a Net Promoter Score.

  • To compare answers before and after, by asking the same questions at the start and end of the experience.

Reporting

  • For Scale questions, the report shows each answer as a number. For Text input questions, it shows the answer as plain text.
