Poll activity

Learners choose one option on their phone, and the group sees the results grow as circles or a bar chart, anonymously.

Written by Cody Iddings

A Poll is an anonymous, visual survey. Each learner chooses one option on their phone, and the group canvas shows the results grow as circles or a bar chart. Use it to gather the group’s opinions and choices in a light-hearted way. Because it’s anonymous, a poll is a safe way to survey the group.

Note: Poll responses can be included in follow-up emails as dynamic data, showing each learner’s choice or the group’s results.

How to add a Poll activity

  1. In the section you want, click Add content > View all activities…, and then choose Poll.

  2. On the group canvas, add a headline and description to prompt the group. We recommend adding an Audio introduction in the options panel too. It plays at the start of the activity.

  3. Under Participant device, add the prompt learners see on their phone. To use the same text as the group canvas, set the toggle to Synced with group canvas.

  4. Add your poll options. Learners see them on their phone and choose one. By default, the group canvas shows the same options, and the toggle over them reads Synced options with participant. To show shorter or different text on the group canvas, click the toggle so it reads Unsynced options from participant.

  5. In the options panel, under Time allocated, choose how long learners have. We recommend two minutes for most activities.

  6. Optional: Under More settings, choose a Visualization type: Circles (max 5 options) or Bar chart. Circles is the default.

  7. Optional: Under Background Music, choose the music that plays while learners choose.

  8. Optional: To add an expert tip, which is a short audio clip that gives learners an extra prompt, click Choose audio tip.

When to use the Poll activity

  • To gather the opinions and choices of the group.

  • To show how varied the group’s opinions are.

  • To visualize a vote and reach consensus.

Reporting

  • The report shows each chosen option as plain text.
