In a Discussion activity, the group talks through what they’ve learned, shares their own experiences and explores how to apply what they’ve learned. We believe some of the most valuable learning comes from discussion, when the group teaches and learns from each other.
Tip: A Discussion works well after another activity, because it gives the group something to talk about. Allow more time than you think. Sometimes everyone wants to share, and the group can always skip ahead if the conversation ends early.
How to add a Discussion activity
In the section you want, click Add content > View all activities…, and then choose Discussion.
On the group canvas, add a headline and description to prompt the group. We recommend adding an Audio introduction in the options panel too. It plays at the start of the discussion.
Under Participant device, add the prompt learners see on their phone. To use the same text as the group canvas, set the toggle to Synced with group canvas.
In the options panel, under Time allocated, choose how long the discussion lasts. For a deeper discussion, a good starting point is about one minute for each learner.
Optional: To show an image on the group canvas, click Image and choose one.
Optional: Under Background Music, choose the music that plays while the group talks.
Optional: To show the responses from an earlier activity in place of the image, choose that activity in the Show earlier responses list, under More settings. You can choose any eligible activity from any section.
Optional: To give learners an extra prompt in a complex discussion, click Choose audio tip on the group canvas. An expert tip is a short audio clip.
When to use the Discussion activity
After an activity, so learners can share what they wrote or their point of view.
After a video, so learners can explore the content more deeply and how it applies to their work.
At the start of a section, so learners can share their own thoughts about a topic.
Reporting
