Some media carries words or a voice — a talking-head video, a screenshot with a caption on it, a worksheet. For these you can upload a different file for each language, and Makeshapes plays whichever one matches the session's language.
Language versions are for alternative files: a re-shot video, a localised screenshot, a translated PDF. If the picture is the same and only the words differ, subtitles or a dubbed audio track are usually the better tool — those stay on the original asset as extra tracks rather than becoming separate versions. Adding a version
Open the media item from your media library, or click it in the experience.
Scroll to Language versions.
Click Add version.
Choose the language and upload the file.
Video and audio take a few minutes to process. The version shows Processing… in the list until it's ready, and the list updates on its own.
Checking what you're looking at
The list of versions is also the preview picker — select a row and the player above switches to that file. There's a matching Previewing… control on the preview itself, so you don't have to scroll back and forth.
The first row is always the base language file, marked (base language). That's the file used for any language you haven't uploaded a version for.
Seeing coverage across the whole experience
Checking assets one at a time gets slow. Instead:
Open the experience and go to Translation.
Switch to the Media view.
Every media slot in the experience is listed, grouped by section and activity, with a card per language showing the file that will actually play. Cards that are greyed out are falling back to the English file. Click the amber + on one of those to jump straight into Add version for that asset and language.
Turn on Show: Untranslated to see only the rows still missing something.
Two things worth knowing
Regional languages match loosely in one direction. A Spanish file covers a Spanish (Argentina) column, but a Spanish (Mexico) file does not — it only covers Spanish (Mexico).
Shared Makeshapes media can't have your own language versions. Fork a copy into your library first, then add versions to the copy.
Deleting a version
Click Delete on the row. If that file is currently in use in an experience, Makeshapes will refuse and tell you — remove it from the experience first.
