During a session, you can use the main controls in three ways: on the shared screen, in the host controls on your phone, or with keyboard shortcuts. The host controls on your phone let you move around the room instead of staying at your laptop.
Note: To see host controls on your phone, you join the session on it as a learner.
Pause
To give learners a break or time to talk, pause the session in any of these ways:
Press P or the spacebar.
On the shared screen, click Pause. To carry on, click Resume.
On your phone, tap the large pause button in your host controls.
During a video, you can also click the video to pause it. For more about pausing, see Pause and manage a session.
Sound
To mute or unmute the session:
Press S.
On the shared screen, click Sound on or Sound off.
On your phone, tap the speaker button in your host controls.
Skip forward or back
Most of the time, the session moves on by itself as the group completes activities, or when you click Next activity on the shared screen or your phone. To skip forward or go back an activity at any time, use these keyboard shortcuts:
Shift + right arrow: skip forward.
Shift + left arrow: skip back.
Move within a slideshow or quiz
Skipping forward and back moves between whole activities. Inside a slideshow or a quiz, you can also move one slide or one question at a time.
In a slideshow:
Right arrow, or Shift + up arrow: next slide.
Left arrow, or Shift + down arrow: previous slide.
In a quiz:
Shift + up arrow: next question.
Shift + down arrow: previous question.
Up and down work the same way everywhere: up moves forward and down moves back, like Shift + right arrow and Shift + left arrow between activities.
Fullscreen
Fullscreen hides the Makeshapes menus around the experience, so the group sees only the content. To turn fullscreen on or off:
Press F.
On the shared screen, click Fullscreen. To leave it, click Close fullscreen.
Subtitles
Some videos have subtitles to support learners who need them. To turn subtitles on or off:
On the shared screen, click Subtitles on or Subtitles off, and then choose a language.
On your phone, tap the subtitles button in your host controls, and then choose a language.
Note: Subtitles are available for videos only.
FAQs
Why can't I see host controls on my phone?
Host controls appear only when you join on your phone with the same email address you registered with as the host. You also need to have completed the activity before you can open them.
